Hello Everyone,

If you are an Indian and are planning a visit to Europe in a month or two, this post is for you. First things first, so which place are you visiting in Europe ? If you are visiting multiple places, which is the country that you are going to stay for the longest duration ? Does this country come under the list of Schengen countries ? What is the purpose of visit? Is it short term or long term ? In case short term, is it business, conference or tourist visa ?
So the answers are really varied for the specification you are going to.

Before I begin, I would like to mention that this Blog Post is specific for Embassy of Portugal. But to note is that, pretty much all the schengen countries visas are the same, so reading this will give you a rough idea. Also, if you have more than one month, you can do it all by yourself, without the help of any agency, but if you still are in doubt or in a hurry go and visit agencies like ThomasCook, who can get the same done for a little extra money.

I will be giving you an Idea of how to get a Short term Business/Conference Visa for visiting Portugal.

  1. List of Documents – Go to the #Documents Required Tab, and note that you need each and every document specified there, unless you have a valid reason to not produce that.
    • You will be needing to present the entire tour itinerary.
    • You will also be needing to present your flight tickets, there are options to get dummy tickets , please talk to few agencies. Don’t book through makemyTrip or e-commerce, because they charge higher and don’t provide flexibility in changing the flights in case of any unforeseen circumstances.
    • You will also be needing to provide your Stay Details.
    • You should also provide Financial Support for the entire trip.
  2. Apply for Visa – once you have all the above documents, go ahead and apply for the visa specifying all the necessary information.

  4. Before going to attend Visa appointment – please make sure you have all the necessary documents and have a passport photo with the given specifications and make sure you give them at least 15-20 working days prior to your journey date for visa processing.
  5. Track Your Visa

Costs for Those who need to have an estimate:

  • Time: safer side, apply before 1 month
  • Visa Charges: ₹7,000/- maximum

Note: If you are traveling to the Europe for the 1st time and have not been to US or UK, you will be asked to attend a Visa Interview in Delhi, please be prepared to go and attend the same. Which will be scheduled around 1-2 weeks before the journey date.
Also, please don’t hesitate to call the embassy in case of emergencies and if you want to know something really important that Vfs Global cannot inform.
